    Hi,

I've been looking into optimizing some page loads and have found that the sharethis widget takes quite a long time to load (relatively speaking). To be precise, the connection trip to get the initial javascript at http://w.sharethis.com/widget/xxxxx and the subsequent sharethis.css that gets retrieved from that script takes a long time for me.

Thus, my question is, is it ok or legal to just get those two files and host them locally? Therefore, saving my connection time to sharethis.com. Note, I understand that doing it this way will have the adverse affect of my sharethis widget not always being up to the date with the latest and greatest offered from sharethis, but I think I can live with it provided I check manually every once in a while and update my two files accordingly.

I am just worried that taking those two files and hosting them locally is not within the terms of service.

  2. Hello,

Thanks for checking in with us. Unfortunately this is against our terms of service. We are currently undergoing a back redesign that will serve the widget and CSS from a CDN for optimization.

    Thanks for using ShareThis!

    Thanks for clearing that up.

    On a follow-up question then:

Is it possible to turn off the logging connection event that tracks the number of views? Besides the connection to sharethis.com to fetch the javascript and css, the connection to sharethis.com for the log also takes a while for me. I am willing to trade off the tracking of the number of views for a slightly faster load time.

  4. I'm afraid that this feature is not currently built into our current product. We'll certainly consider this feedback going forward with our product.
