Customize my ShareThis Link

(5 posts)

  1. Hello there,

I'd like to customize my ShareThis link as follows:
    - Change the text from "ShareThis" to s/th different (and also the "title"-attribute)
    - Make the rotating icon with transparent background (so no white edges are seen with some logos)
    - Change the CSS-class a.stbutton so there's no longer any padding (otherwise the Link doesn't fit into my menu-style)

(How) Is this possible? And if it's not, can you please make it possible? =) I think those are some important customization issues, so every one can decide on his/her own what the ShareThis link should look like. Thanks in advance!

    Cheers,

  2. Hi Renet,

The ShareThis API (STAPI) is flexible enough to allow you to attach the ShareThis functionality to any HTML element you choose. In other words, you can make your own custom buttons. For instruction see: http://support.sharethis.com/developers/developers-faq/stapi/62

I'm happy to answer any additional questions you may have.

  3. Thanks for your reply. I think this will work fine for me, except for one thing: The rotating icon that I want to have transparency is (as ShareThis says) rotating through the full set of icons that I have in my ShareThis Box. But I've chosen to always use the top 20 social webservices. This would mean that if I'd like to create my own rotating icon, I would have to update it, everytime that the top 20 changes, wouldn't it? Isn't there another way to add transparency (or at least a pre-defined background color) to the rotating icon so I can stay up to date with the top 20 social webservices AND the rotation button WITH transparency / backgroundcolor automatically?

Hmm, that way a little complicated... Hope you get, what I mean. =)

  4. Hi Renet,

For clarity, animated gifs cannot have transparent backgrounds, unfortunately. Also the animated gif that ShareThis has, only cycles through a select set of social web services, not the ones specified in the Social Web tab.

I'm happy to answer any additional questions you may have.

  5. That's not true. Animated gif-files CAN have transparency.
    Here's an example: http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/huepfen/jumping-smiley-015.gif

I suggest to update your rotating icon and add transparency. Even though I now know that creating my own icon is not connected with any disadvantages. Thanks for that information.
