Amplicon,

I am guessing that you are seeing a slowdown because you are in a different geographical location (UK -> Seattle). We plan on implementing a global CDN solution soon, so you should see an improvement when that happens, but till then I was wondering if you can send me a url where I can look at your implementation I am sure that I can suggest a solution that solves the issue you are seeing)

We have just found the same problem.

Everything was fine until we got the news of the new and 'faster' loading code. But on our IE browsers (both 6 & 7) it seems to create a 2-5 sec delay which makes the page freeze and clicking on links does not work until the share this code has loaded.

Hi there

Thanks for replying.

To answer your question: an example of the problem showing its face is the 'videos' page - the comments box on the right briefly becomes visible when first loading the page. With Sharethis removed this doesn't happen.

I think the additional javascript is just slowing down the loading of each page enough that a flaw with hiding DIVs (either an inate one or one in the way we've structured our code) is showing itself.

Does that make sense?

Cheers - Jon

Hi there

We're using quite a lot of different CSS's on a site we're building, c/w the usual javascript to hide/show certain divs.

Working version of the site is here... http://tinyurl.com/5f4q3m

Adding the sharethis icon is slowing page-loading down sufficiently that divs which should be hidden on load are briefly visible (e.g. if you click on the 'videos' link you will see the comments div which is usually hidden by default load briefly).

Can anyone suggest a way round this? I'm thinking it may be a fundemental issue with the way our javascript is structured - it's not our forte.

Gratefully,

Obviously, having tried to fix it for ages, I thought of the solution 4 minutes after posting this. So I downloaded the CSS used by the second poster above, and found this in there:
a:hover .stbuttontext {
color: #147;
text-decoration: underline;
}
Which did the trick when I added it to my CSS.

The ShareThis link and logo are appearing fine on my wordpress posts EG ( this pushchair post ). Latest versions of ShareThis and WP installed. But when you rollover the link, the ShareThis words disappear.

Two other people have reported this:
http://forums.sharethis.com/topic/link-hover-color

Neither of these solutions works for me (and they are very different!). Is it possible to find out what the name of the CSS class is or whatever? I presume a bit of tweaking of the CSS is all that's needed. But as I can't see the HTML, I can't work out what to change.

That's not true. Animated gif-files CAN have transparency.
Here's an example: http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/huepfen/jumping-smiley-015.gif

I suggest to update your rotating icon and add transparency. Even though I now know that creating my own icon is not connected with any disadvantages. Thanks for that information.

Hi Renet,

For clarity, animated gifs cannot have transparent backgrounds, unfortunately. Also the animated gif that ShareThis has, only cycles through a select set of social web services, not the ones specified in the Social Web tab.

Thanks for your reply. I think this will work fine for me, except for one thing: The rotating icon that I want to have transparency is (as ShareThis says) rotating through the full set of icons that I have in my ShareThis Box. But I've chosen to always use the top 20 social webservices. This would mean that if I'd like to create my own rotating icon, I would have to update it, everytime that the top 20 changes, wouldn't it? Isn't there another way to add transparency (or at least a pre-defined background color) to the rotating icon so I can stay up to date with the top 20 social webservices AND the rotation button WITH transparency / backgroundcolor automatically?

Hmm, that way a little complicated... Hope you get, what I mean. =)

Hi Renet,

The ShareThis API (STAPI) is flexible enough to allow you to attach the ShareThis functionality to any HTML element you choose. In other words, you can make your own custom buttons. For instruction see: http://support.sharethis.com/developers/developers-faq/stapi/62

Hello there,

I'd like to customize my ShareThis link as follows:
- Change the text from "ShareThis" to s/th different (and also the "title"-attribute)
- Make the rotating icon with transparent background (so no white edges are seen with some logos)
- Change the CSS-class a.stbutton so there's no longer any padding (otherwise the Link doesn't fit into my menu-style)

(How) Is this possible? And if it's not, can you please make it possible? =) I think those are some important customization issues, so every one can decide on his/her own what the ShareThis link should look like. Thanks in advance!

After putting together the Drupal 6 module for ShareThis (http://drupal.org/project/sharethis), I'm noticing the positioning of the elements is not quite to my liking. When a link at the bottom of the page is clicked, the positioning is too low, and once it is loaded, a user must scroll down to see the full block.

What I'd like to implement with simple CSS overrides, is a fixed position block that was let's say for example in the top right hand corner of the page. This could easily be accomplished in my code, however, with a page with multiple links (like 10 or more), if the ShareThis blocks appeared in the same position for each, it would be hard for the user to really see what post they were submitting to a social networking site.

I think it would be an easy implement, and a great feature so that at the top of the "web" and "email" tabs, it had 2 lines displaying the title of the post, and the url, so that a user could see this, and verify they are actually submitting what they like.
